Vasilopita is a sweet bread traditionally cut on St. Basil's Day, January 1st. It is an old tradition in Greece and other Orthodox countries.  Families cut the vasilopita to bless the house and bring blessings for the new year. This is usually done with a small prayer at the midnight of New Year's Eve. A coin is hidden in the bread by slipping it into the dough before baking.  Whoever finds the coin in their piece, has a blessing for the New Year!

Approximately 10 inch, 2 lb. round loaf.
